I always knew I would get breast cancer. But I thought I would be 60-something, rather than 39. Cancer runs in my family – both my grandma’s had breast cancer, as well as my paternal great grandma. I guess I just got a jump start on the getting old thing.

In 2012, I spent the year going through 2 surgeries (a bilateral mastectomy and reconstructive surgery), 8 rounds of chemo (once every 2 weeks) and 7 weeks of radiation (5 days a week). It was a long year but I made it through.

Now, I’m figuring out how to navigate my life as a breast cancer survivor. I find it to be quite the roller coaster.

There are a lot of blogs about going through treatment for cancer, but not a lot that I’ve found about living as a survivor. That’s what I write about here.

  2. Your first sentence here has hit home for me. I too have always known that I would get breast cancer. It runs in my family as well. I thought I would be in my 50s and 60s like the other members of my family but I got it at age 37. I just finished chemo. Cancer sucks.

      • Thank you! It’s a crappy family history but it is what it is, I guess. Even though I start radiation soon, I’m ready to begin my healing. That’s the BIG deal for me.

  3. It’s great to find you! I too blog about survivorship which to me has become more challenging than treatments. Or perhaps they are a little different – survivorship is more mental than physical… but you get it. Looking forward to reading more about your experiences. xo
